Be Smart ~ Go Green  Definitely!

Not only is recycling  EASY and smart for the environment, but its smart for your wallet as well. We have listed a few ideas below. Check back often - every few days I'll update this list with different items. We bet you have a use for lots of things in your home!

Tin foil (aluminum)

  • Sharpen your scissors by cutting through 6-8 layers of foil.
Don't throw this in your regular trash, make sure it makes it into a recycle bin when finished.

  • Shine rusty chrome by scrubbing with a littlewater on a wadded up piece of foil.

  • Keep birds out of your fruit tree by hanging several twisted strips on them with fishing line.

  • Iron more effectively by putting a piece of foil under the ironing board cover. The foil will reflect the heat from the iton so both sides get ironed at once.

Alka Seltzer

  • Clean a toilet. Drop in 2 tablets, wait 20 minutes, brush and flush.
  • Attract fish. Fill a tube jig with a piece of alka-seltzer and cast off.
  • Remove burned food from cookware by filling it with warm water, dissolving 6 tablets and let it sit for an hour or so.
  • Soothe insect bites. Dissolve 2 tablets in water; saturate a cloth or cotton ball with the solution and place on the bite for 30 minutes (unless you are allergic to aspirin).
